Believe it or not this Wal Mart store has a great manager overseeing the pet dept. He is a fish person himself and has several tanks at home. He knowes a lot about fishkeeping, is well stocked if a large variaty of tropical fish as well as cold water fish. Has a great seclection of food, tanks and just about anything you would need. And he is a very helpfull person who will take time to answer the questions you have and will help all he can.

This is a nice size Fish store. They have a good selection of Fresh and Salt fish. They tend to have some more exotic species as well as the "bread & butter". Their prices are reasonable and the fish seem healthy. The staff vary in their knowledge. It is hard to fully staff a shop on wages that allow competitve pricing of inventory.

This is a large full line pet shop. I don't think it is a big chain, but it does have one other store on the Westbank in Gretna. I have not been to the other store. The Metairie store is fairly high on fish prices and at times the tanks do not look very good. Be selective. They generally have good quantity and variety of fish. They also have good prices on their pet food.

This store has a web-site, but I don't have it. They sell nationwide and carry a line of slate mounted driftwood that a store I worked in (in Dallas) handled. Generally, the prices aree very high, but they seem to have been around long enough to have captured the B.R. market. The stores on Jefferson and Highland are the larger stores and carry a better stock. In particular, the store on Highland has a large fish dept. The buy
in volume and often have several tanks of the same fish, but still don't have decent prices. Having managed pet stores before and owned an aquarium maintenance co., I know the savings through buying in volume. Unforunatly, this store knows it does not have any real competition in B.R. This is also a full line pet shop.

This shop is located on Highway 51 in LaPlace, LA.
(It used to be on Airline Hwy. I don't know the address, but now is easily accessed by going South off I-10 at exit 209 and the store is about 1 or 2 miles down on the left.)

This is a fairly large Pet store that specializes in fish but has some other stuff. The store has a large fresh section and a med/large salt section. Their prices are worth the 45 min drive from Baton Rouge. The owner also seems to have a good knowledge of ponds. The negative to this store is the lack of marked prices on the salt fish. Generally, the fish are about half the
price of salt fish in B.R.

Comments:
Aquarius is a relatively new pet shop that is family owned and operated. They seem relatively new to the retail end but very interested in helping the customer. Their inventory is limited, but again willing to get what you want. The owner also makes custom tanks.
